A Brief Overview
The herb Stevia rebaudiana is used to make stevia, a natural sugar substitute. It adds no calories, no nutrients, and no extra sugars to the diet. As a result, stevia may be helpful for diabetics who need assistance controlling their blood sugar levels and for those who wish to cut back on added sugar.
But watch out for becoming overly dependent on stevia. Although the permissible daily consumption is only 4 mg/kg of body weight, it is generally acknowledged to be safe. Due to their additional nutritional worth, foods that contain natural sugars, such as fruit and dairy products, should still be consumed.
